We had the pleasure of designing and transforming a family dining room. The original room was very traditional with mahogany finishes, an oriental rug, and earth tone colors. Since this is not their formal dining room, the client wanted something that felt casual and comfortable. We wanted to use bright and calming colors in this space, to give a peaceful, tranquil vibe. To do this, we first painted the trim and wainscot white and the walls a soft blue. We used Benjamin Moore’s Alabaster OC-219 and Soft Sky 807.
We brought in a faux bamboo dining table and chairs to replace the existing mahogany table. We upholstered the chairs in Kravet’s Chromis- Reflection fabric. I loved the subtle design in the fabric. We didn’t want something too loud, but we didn’t want a solid. Solids on a dining chair will show to many stains! This fabric also had the blues, white, and silver tones we needed.
There is only one window in this room and we went with a tailored valence and sheer panels. A tailored valence looks neat and clean. I used Greenhouse fabric Hydrangea B6515, since it had the blues and silver tones to compliment the chairs. I bought extra fabric to make throw pillows for the two benches and chair we put in the room as well.
We chose a neutral sea grass rug, as it helped finish the casual look we were going for. This type of carpet is also great for high traffic areas because of its durability.
I love this way this room turned out. The final design and decor is modern with a classic charm.
